My Turn for Gremlins, Goblins, and Ghouls

Today is my turn for Joan's Gremlins, Goblins, and Ghouls hop. Maybe I have a few creepy things to share, but some are just fun.

First off, with a little help from Crafter's Edge, I cut out and appliqued these shapes on 2 towels.

The circle die is from Crafter's Edge circle die set.

And then I used an Accuquilt die for the bat and cat. Did you know you can use Accuquilt dies on the Crossover II machine? There are directions for doing so.

I used my trusty machine blanket stitch to applique around each figure. Worked like a charm.

Next up is a wool hand project. This is a small piece, about 8 x 16, I think. I hand-appliqued all the wool shapes onto the background and hand stitched the embroidery on the borders, which was also the quilting. I don't remember the name of the pattern...

I also made Scrabble Jack. I gave the pattern away, so I don't know the designer.

This guy uses the interfacing that has the squares marked on it, but if I were doing it over again, I would forget about using that and just cut 2" squares instead of the 1 7/8" ones that were in the directions.

The raffia, buttons, and scrabble pieces are hot-glued onto Jack.

I see that I should have cropped this photo a little, but it works.

Not spooky but fun is the Riley Blake pumpkin pillow cover kit. I love these Riley Blake kits. Behind this pillow is my Hagatha's House quilt from last year. I love this quilt!

Lastly is my little ghost. I read the book The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason to my quilt group (Cerro Gordo Quilters) and had them make a ghost wall hanging (thanks to Sharon, head of an Arkansas quilt group for the idea). Ahead of time, I asked them to make a patchwork about 8 x 10". I brought backgrounds (12 x 15") and borders for them to choose from. They didn't know what they were making until I read them the book. Below is my quilt ghost. This is a wonderful story about being different.

Ok, I can't resist one more. Here is our youngest little pumpkin (i.e., grandchild). Sydney is 9 1/2 months old and a real joy, full of smiles, and happy most of the time. She has 3 big sisters to keep up with.

Queen of Gadgets hop

Boy, do we all use lots of gadgets! We must all be Queens of Gadgets (speaking for myself and my quilting friends, of course.)! Thanks, Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for hosting this hop!

The first gadget I want to feature is Crafter's Edge Crossover II cutting machine.

For the finished project I am showing, I used the die sets below.

And below is my project for September as part of the Crafter's Edge Design Team.

It also works perfectly for this hop since I used many gadgets. :)

I call it Birds and Bows.

The rainbow die comes as a solid die so you have to cut all six arches out of each color. That means lots of extra "bows." Thanks to an idea from Julia of Inflorescence (you'll see hers in October, I believe), I decided to use extra parts on the corners of my wall hanging. I think those squiggles look pretty good, if I do say so myself.

I have many more necessary gadgets:

I love my machines:

my Janome 9400

and my Juki QVP sit down quilting machine and rulers

(I got the butterfly decals in Menard's wall paper section--love them!)

A necessary, but unloved gadget--my seam ripper... I used it countless times on this Riley Blake pillow cover kit. Guess I was too busy listening to others at our sew day last week instead of paying close attention to what I should have been doing! LOL!

I LOVE my Quilter's Select rulers and rotary cutter!

When I am hand stitching (I like to have a wool project going), I use DMC embroidery floss most of the time, and I love the Clover Macaron that now holds my needles and pins. I also like having my scissors attached to my old ID holder (from when I was still teaching). It has a retractable cord--very handy.

Well, I could come up with more gadgets, but I'm sure you all use many of the same that I do.

See Ya Later--Tuesday edition

It's my turn on the See Ya Later hop, hosted by Carla of Creatin in the Sticks.

I had just finished a wall hanging that I knew would be just right for this hop, so I haven't shown it on my blog yet...

I love Alaska and every part of it that I have seen so far.

I love some of the quilt shops there too, and one of my favorites is Northern Threads in Fairbanks.

I asked my sister-in-law for this kit from there as my Christmas present in 2021.

Here is my finished product:

My custom quilt holders are pretty special, right? :)

This is called Winter Solstice and is part of the 2021 Quilters' Trek.

It can be stitched as a 36" long piece or cut apart, the way I did.

The border is Northern Lights fabric I bought at The Patchwork Moose in Talkeetna, AK in 2019 when we were there. You can buy it here in the lower 48 now, but I hadn't seen it anywhere else at that point.

On that 2019 trip, I bought several kits at Northern Threads.

Because my SIL had been diligent in getting row by rows from Juneau's Changing Tides (where my SIL lives and that's another one of my favorite shops) and a friend had been in Fairbanks in 2018 and got me that row by row, plus those I got from a couple other shops in AK, I was able to put together an Alaska quilt.

I showed this a while back on my blog, but the See Ya Later hop makes it worth showing again.

The top and bottom panels are from Northern Threads (I absolutely LOVE the Whale Song panel on top).

The 2nd one down and the salmon ladder on the left are from Changing Tides in Juneau.

The elk panel is from Northern Heart Originals in Denali.

Next one down (salmon) and the map of SE Alaska on the right are from The Quilted Raven in Anchorage (I bought several kits at this shop and it is another favorite shop).

The panel of the Mendenhall Glacier is from Raintree Quilts in Juneau.

I visited every one of those shops in 2019. What a blast!

I am just about Alaska-ed out with my quilt projects, though. I do plan to get after some of the other kits I bought--one is a raven and one is of the wildflowers, but I think I have plenty of salmon, elk, and moose for now.

If you haven't been to Alaska, you must go! And if you have only been to SE Alaska--which has its own unique beauty--get to the interior!!

There are other parts of Alaska I haven't seen yet, and I fully intend to get there some day.
