Crafter's Edge Design Team April project

May I present... my April project for the Crafter's Edge Design Team, using dies the Crossover II cutting machine! I made this zipper bag using one of the tumbler dies and the LOVE die. The tumbler die includes 5 sizes--2", 3", 4", 5", and 6". I used the 3" size for this bag and cut tumblers from 4 fabrics.

Here is the die on the machine after I had made 1 cut from this fabric. You can see other cut-outs on my cutting board.

The dies are only this thick/thin and are not sharp. You would have to be very talented to receive a cut from one of these dies! (I don't think it's possible.)

Here is how I pinned and sewed the tumblers together.

Then I sewed 4 rows for each side.

Next, I squared off the edges.

And put borders around all 4 sides (1 1/2" strips).

I forgot to take any in between photos, but here is the bag, stitched all together. The zipper is installed, the fronts are quilted with wavy lines (serpentine stitch?) using my walking foot. I used iron-on fleece, and the applique is part of the quilting. I cut out squares from the corners so I could box the bottom.

It's finished and my 40 year old Raggedy Ann and Andy like this bag.

Here's the back.

I had some leftover tumblers so I decided to make a small snap bag--that's the kind that uses a metal measuring tape for the closure. Here's the outside and the lining, which also makes a trim for the bag.

Both projects--I added a yellow ribbon to the zipper pull of my LOVE bag.

I think I love them both! 

Here's a peek at the inside of the snap bag--it's small but would hold several spools of thread.

Crossover II and Dies

 My Crossover II die machine from Crafter's Edge came today!

I'm sew very excited to get it and start on a project as part of our Design Team's assignments!

Here is the opened cardboard box for a peek.

The Crossover II is out of its box with the equipment that came with it:

metal adaptor plate

clear top plate

user manual

gingerbread house die

After looking at the manual enough to see how to sandwich fabric and plates, I grabbed the LOVE die I had received on Saturday and ran it through the machine with some dk blue batik backed with fusible web.

The dies are very thin with no sharp edges to worry about. The pressure setting of the rollers on the Crossover II determines how it will cut (pressure depends on the kind of material going through and the thickness).

Here's how it turned out. I'll be using this on my April project which is churning in my mind. It won't be a wall hanging, as I originally thought. You'll have to wait and see what I do. Hee, hee.

These are the rest of the dies I received Saturday. I'm really looking forward to using every one of them in the next 3 months. What an exciting adventure!!

Crafter's Edge Design Team

 I'm excited to be a part of the Crafter's Edge Design Team for 2021! Those of us on the team will be making something each month from April through December using Crafter's Edge products.

Crafter's Edge has a cutting machine, the Crossover II, and many dies that will cut fabric into shapes.

I can't wait to get my equipment and start in a project with my new Crossover and dies!

I'm hoping to use some of my Crafter's Edge things to make something for this hop.

Salt and Sand--My Day

 Kudos to Carol at Just Let Me Quilt for hosting this wonderful hop!

I've seen SEW MANY creative ideas!

Today I'm sharing my projects. The first ones I'm sharing involve a panel that my SIL brought to me from Hawaii, oh, 7 or 8 years ago, I guess. I could never figure out what to do with it and finally decided to take part of it for a table runner. 

Then Carol said she was hosting this hop and I KNEW I was going to get this made!

Here it is: I used half of the panel pieces to make the runner. I wanted to use the bright flowers so it would show up better on my coffee table. My SIL brought me the turtle fabric too.

Then I decided that I might as well use up the rest of the panel pieces and make a narrow wall hanging. 

It works quite well on a door. This is at the head of our stairs, and I like to keep something hanging on it. For the borders this time, I used a batik from my stash. It matches perfectly.

I FMQed both items with wavy lines using my Juki QVP sit-down quilting machine.

The last project is a quilt top--I haven't had time to get it quilted, but have worked frantically to get it all in one piece. This is my Alaska quilt.

The top, bottom, and right side (map of SE Alaska) came from Northern Threads in Fairbanks, AK. The 2nd one down and the one on the left came from Changing Tides in Juneau. The Mendenhall glacier one (paper pieced in sections with no instructions on how to put it together--very weird seams, glad I somehow got it together) from Rain Tree Quilting in Juneau. The caribou piece came from Northern Heart Originals in Denali, and the salmon in the middle came from The Quilted Raven in Anchorage. In 2019 we were at each one of these shops. What a great trip (not just for the quilt shops, either)!!!

There is some Alaska batik in here, with maps of the state on it. 

It took some figuring to put it all together, but I think it looks pretty good.

I have a bunch more that I bought on that trip, so another quilt may be in order, but this one satisfies the Salt and Sand theme of this hop--and besides, I didn't have time to do more! Hee, hee!

Two February finishes

This hop is coming up soon! Carol has a good line-up of participants, and it will be a great hop, as they all are! Hope you plan to visit all of us and see our projects!

I subscribed to Shabby Fabrics word of the month wall hanging kit program for the year. This is the one for March. Sweet! I love the colors too.

Here is the finished quilt for a nephew. I folded the backing over so it can be seen. I really like that backing--used it on another quilt a couple years ago. Not the greatest picture but it was nasty weather outside when I took it. Now that it's nice, I need to get some better pics.

A closeup of the quilting--triangles for a math teacher. A piece of the math symbols fabric is visible--that's what I bound it with too.
